Modern technologies, computers, and machines

Christmas is coming. This is the time of holidays, miracle, fairy-tale, the time to be kind to each other and to do the good. Nevertheless, this is the time when lonely people feel their isolation more sharply. It is a tragedy if a person believes that he is abandoned and useless.

Modern technologies, computers, and machines leave fewer opportunities to communicate with the society. Young people are so busy with themselves, that they usually do not notice that seniors are left lonely and even threatened with using gadgets and digital tools in daily routine. The latest technologies seem to be extremely difficult for seniors, and they do not have anyone to help.

Most technology is created for young, digitally literate, quick-minded people and seniors are just incapable to cope with new developments. The tech industry seems to be not for this age group. From debit cards to self-checkouts at supermarkets, the new rules seem not to be efficient for seniors.

Christmas is a great time for the youth not to be self-concentrated, but turn around and simply help. The right attitude can help: seniors are the wisest, not the weakest group among others, and they are able to learn pretty anything if young people would be a bit patient.

In general, communicating with other people, always remember that every person deserves respect. Modern technologies can help seniors reduce their loneliness and even avoid a tragedy in the house.

Just talk to the seniors and you will find out that they are kind and friendly, and most of them will be happy if a young person wants to help them in their struggles with modern devices. Try to figure out what their issue is and offer your help. The isolating reasons are normally pretty same: an embarrassment to forget anything during the modern communication or a fear of failing while using technologies. You can explain that you also needed some time to understand how to use a new device, found the tips on the Internet, or maybe your friends gave you some simple hints.

Some seniors have certain questions or doubts about using technical devices, but their young relatives are too busy to reply them or turn to for help. “A 55-year-old woman, the mother of three IT-workers, is looking for someone to teach her how to use the Internet.” It may sound funny until you turn out to be in her situation. It is a nice decision to start with your senior relatives and simply ask if they need any help. Another good idea is not to ask in general, but come at the right time and offer some tips in front of a new technology and show it practically. Mind your language, use only those terms for the explanation, which seniors can understand.

Helping seniors, you can learn valuable lessons, be happy to help others and make our society more harmonious. Those who use modern communications are not the most intelligent people on the planet. They are common people, who could learn how to use technologies, so help seniors to learn it too. The latest upgrade can be simple for us to use, so let’s help other people use all the benefits of living in the 21st century. Be sure that all your efforts are worth that.

Who is NetApp?

At Cloud Field Day 9 Netapp presented some of its cloud solutions. This comes on the heels of NetApp Insight , the annual corporate event that should give its user base not just new products but also a general overview of the company strategy for the future. NetApp presented a lot of interesting news and projects around multi-cloud data and system management. The Transition to Data Fabric This is not the first time that NetApp radically changed its strategy. Do you remember when NetApp was the boring ONTAP-only company? Not that there is anything wrong with ONTAP of course (the storage OS originally designed by NetApp is still at the core of many of its storage appliances). It just can’t be the solution for everything, even if it does work pretty well. When ONTAP was the only answer to every question (even with StorageGrid and EF systems already part of the portfolio), the company started to look boring and, honestly, not very credible. The day the Data Fabric vision was announced
